BARISTA & COFFEE 2: ADVANCED COFFEE SCIENCE & SENSORY TRAINING

This seminar aims to deepen knowledge of coffee as a raw material, enhance baristas’ sensory skills through guided tastings and scientific tools, and provide specialized training in coffee science and advanced brewing techniques.

Program Modules:

  • In-depth study of coffee beans: varieties, processing methods & their impact on flavor.
  • Advanced grinder calibration techniques.
  • Use of a digital refractometer for extraction analysis.
  • Experimentation with different coffee flavor profiles & creation of personal blends under the guidance of Bar Academy trainers.

Scientific Approach & Sensory Training:

  • One full day dedicated exclusively to espresso and its complex flavor components.
  • Practice in advanced brewing methods, focusing on techniques & applications.
  • Participation in cupping sessions for a deeper understanding of the coffee flavor wheel.
  • Introduction to latte art: milk frothing & presentation.

THEORY & PRACTICAL TRAINING: ADVANCED COFFEE TECHNIQUES

  • Green Coffee Evaluation – Understanding and assessing unroasted beans.
  • Coffee Varieties – Exploring species and their influence on flavor.
  • Espresso Extraction Analysis – Key variables for the perfect shot.
  • Brewing Methods & Brew Charts – Mastering different brewing techniques.
  • Total Dissolved Solids (T.D.S.) – Measuring and analyzing coffee strength.
  • Cupping Protocol – Standardized tasting methods.
  • Cupping Espresso Blends – Developing sensory skills to design espresso blends.

Practical Training Includes:

  • Targeting T.D.S. – Achieving balanced extraction.
  • Immersion Brewing & Bypass Techniques – Practicing alternative brewing methods.
  • Sensory Espresso Evaluation – Identifying espresso flavor profiles.
  • Espresso Blend Creation & Extraction – Designing balanced blends.
  • Introduction to Latte Art – Basic principles of milk frothing and surface design.

This intensive program offers baristas both theoretical depth and practical specialization, preparing them to master extraction, brewing, and sensory evaluation at a professional level.

SEMINAR CURRICULUM, CERTIFICATION & ATTENDANCE POLICY

  • Participants who successfully complete the full program and pass both the theoretical and practical assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. If the required criteria are not met, the certificate will not be issued.
